SoCal Gray
Yesterday I went to a niece's baby shower at a home in Malibu.

malibu west

I took this westward facing shot from the balcony. While friends back east would have loved the relatively mild weather (it hit 82 degrees, wasn't hotter, which I'd dreaded), nobody here loves the fact that we've had zero rain. January through March, these hills have their best chance of being green, which turns to gold as summer approaches, and then in the autumn, turns this dingy grayish brown, when wildfire danger is at its height. But the wildfire danger is at its height now, which makes the prospect of the rest of the year scary, unless the Jet Stream gets out of the middle of the country and back to the west coast where it belongs.

But since we're helpless to do anything about it, I'll leave it at that, and post the almost-sunset picture. No colors yet (we were inching along Pacific Coast Highway through the beach traffic when the colors came) but I thought the shadows, the subtle variation in the sky, worth snapping, since I don't often get chances like this.

Love the shine of the sun on the water.

Praying for rain for you. Drought is a terrible thing.

Than you--we sure need it.

Oh, yes. I've always loved that fire trail straight west to the sinking sun.

I'm so worried for CA. My thoughts are with you all.

They are beautiful pictures, especially the second. Love.

Thank you!

I know, I think of the lovely forests and redwoods . . .

Those are lovely colors! Where I am, it's a different palette, and sometimes I miss the set shown in your photos. (On the other hand, we do get daffodils in the ground where I am. On the third hand, I saw some in a neighbor's yard yesterday, and usually early March is their time. Arrgh.)

Yeah, we've got certain trees blossoming that usually do later.

I really wish we could teleport you some of our rain. We have had more than enough and it's still falling. :(

Oh, so do I!

I love the ocean. Beautiful pictures!

Would you believe...we had the teeniest bit of rain today? Totally unpredicted.

Wow! Nothing here, of course.

Lovely photos. I'd send you over some of the rain we're supposed to get tomorrow, if I could, especially since it will only fall on frozen roads and cause a traffic chaos here.

This strange US term 'baby shower' again.

I keep having images of folks dunking their newborn in the shower while everyone watches- bit like a lay baptism! :o)

Heh! No, at a baby shower the expecting mom gets showered with gifts.

There are games played that have to do with pregnancy and babies, and food eaten, and a whole lot of talk, the estrogen in the air significant.

The first time I heard the term, I imagines a shower of babies, similar to "It's raining men", only with babies.

I love the tone difference in the sky and water in that second picture.

Here's to wishing you guys get some rain!

It's not the saturated, dramatic coloration of a fiery sunset, but it has its appeal.

Thanks! We're all hoping.
