Sunday Reading and . . .
. . . in one of my occasional (and, yeah, pretty abysmal) attempts at self promotion, A Stranger to Command is on sale for 99 cents for a couple more days.

Indie goodies you might have missed:

For those of you complaining that everything is the same old, same old, S. Dorman's C.S.Lewis and Mark Twain dialogue in the Hereafter. Take a look. It's got Kepler in there, too.

Judith Tarr's lovely Living in Threes, a YA novel that is science fiction, fantasy, contemporary and historical. Vivid and poignant, and on sale for only 99 cents.

I've only just begun Michelle M. Welch's The Sea Between Worlds, which so far is really good. An unusual magic system, interesting and vividly done use of tall ships and wooden world culture, a complicated court drama with secrets and disguises--and I can't predict where it's going.

Thanks for letting us know about Stranger to Command! I've been wanting to read it since reading Crown Duel/Court Duel post-VP, and this is the prod I needed.

Just purchased A Stranger to Command. If I own but haven't read Crown Duel, which would you recommend I read first?

I think each would give a different perspective. Crown Duel is probably more accessible (I wrote the first draft when I was 20)

Oooh, thanks! Now, that is what self-publishing is for.

Yes, yes--it is for every book that breaks the rules, but you loved writing anyway. There is always a chance a reader would love it, too.

I have always loved A Stranger to Command and am already a fan of cinda_cite's thoughtful work, both fiction and essay. Living in Threes is on my to-read list, but The Sea Between Worlds is new to me--or fairly new? Perhaps I've heard the title; it sounds familiar, and I like the sound of it (by which I mean not only that I like the description you've given, but I like the very evocative title itself). I'll have to add it to my leaning tower of to-reads!

What a nice way to spend the .99 I had left from a gift card I won at Bingo. LOL! See, self-promotion works great!:)

Oh, thank you for extending the sale! I'm planning on purchasing it tomorrow, soon as I figure out how Kindle works on my smarter-than-me-phone... :)

Purchased A Stranger to Command and read through the night - absolutely loved it! Time to go back and reread Court and Crown Duel to see how he matured. Love your writing, big fan xx
