SFWA reading
Today rachelmanija and I joined Steven Blackmoore and Sofia Samatar at the Redondo Beach Library to do a reading/ Q&A. We had a surprisingly good turnout! All our stuff was different--Steven, a fellow DAW author, read an excruciatingly funny horror story. Sofia, who recently won the Campbell Award, read from her novel A Stranger in Olondria, years and years in the making. Beautiful prose, both poetic but restrained, evoking to my ear, at least, the kind of translation of Persian poetry whose word choices are precise, free of mawkish sentiment and trite expressions, rendering the images that much more powerful in effect.

After that event, we went out to dinner, joined by the event coordinators, which included Adam Rakunas, Jenn Reese and Greg van Eekhout. It was so fun to sit and talk shop with other writers.

It must have been **excellent**! I heard Sofia read from either A Stranger in Olondria or from its sequel-in-progress, I can't remember which, and man, it was good. And I *know* Stranger is good ^_^ Sounds like Steven's was lots of fun, too--what a great time!
